Psalm 29
The weather here has been stormy the past few days. I don't know about you, but when it rains, I tend to move at a slower pace. This Monday morning seems like a good time to slow down and look at a passage of scripture together.
I recently read Psalm 29 and was curious about its imagery. Today, I invite you to look at Psalm 29 and notice what makes you curious. Before you begin reading, take a moment to breathe deeply and ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate whatever might be meaningful to you today.
As you read through the psalm the first time, pay attention to any words or phrases that stick out to you.
Psalm 29 (NLT)
A Psalm of David
Honor the Lord, you heavenly
beings;
honor the Lord for his glory and
strength.
Honor the Lord for the glory of his
name.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of
his holiness.
The voice of the Lord echoes
above the sea.
The God of glory thunders.
The Lord thunders over the mighty
sea.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord splits the
mighty cedars;
the Lord shatters the cedars of
Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon's mountains
skip like a calf;
he makes Mount Hermon leap like a
young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord strikes
with bolts of lightning.
The voice of the Lord makes the
barren wilderness quake;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of
Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord twists mighty
oaks
and strips the forests bare.
In his Temple everyone shouts,
"Glory!"
The Lord rules over the
floodwaters.
The Lord reigns as king forever.
The Lord gives his people
strength.
The Lord blesses them with peace.
What did you notice as you read through these verses? What words or phrases stood out to you? What questions came to mind?
Now read through the psalm again. Pay attention to if anything new stands out as you read this time.
Spend some time in prayer, talking with God about what you noticed. Why do you think these words or phrases stood out to you today? Is there an invitation from God as you consider these words today?
After you've spent some time reflecting on this passage and what the Holy Spirit might be highlighting for you, read through the psalm one final time.
I was deeply moved thinking about the power of God's voice and by the line "The Lord reigns as king forever." These words give me immense hope. I'd love to hear what you noticed in these verses.
Blessings to you on this Monday - Melissa
